This is a PhD dissertation that my grandfather wrote in 1905. I had no idea someone was publishing it. It was written at the University of Chicago Theological Seminary and reveals a very compassionate attitude towards wayward boys. This was a new attitude at the time and has a basis in spirituality. Several years ago I found this book on google project gutenberg, as I recall, and I gather that anyone can take the text off that website and just start publishing it. Whoever is doing this is not a family member and it seems to me that the descendants should be consulted, but such is the way of the modern, greedy world. The principal value of this book is historical. This is my grandfather's PhD dissertation -- an amazingly compassionate view of "bad boys" written well over 100 years ago. I didn't realize that someone could take a dissertation from the University of Chicago archives and take it upon themselves to print it. I suppose these folks have copyrighted this material, too. Interesting! Wish I'd thought of it! When listing the author's name, it would have been gracious of them to put PhD after his name!
